Associate Campus Dean
Dr. Michael G. Brizek has more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality and tourism industry, having held management positions with corporations such as Marriott, Applebee’s, and T.G.I. Friday’s, a well as with several independent institutions.
In addition to his professional experiences, Dr. Brizek has served 15 years in higher education as a faculty member or administrator with such institutions as Baltimore International College, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the University of Massachusetts, and the University of South Carolina. He has published more than 15 peer-reviewed articles, as well as a book exploring practices related to corporate entrepreneurship. Dr. Brizek has presented extensively on hospitality management, and has sat on numerous committees and editorial boards for various academic journals. His research has led to interviews and coverage by several media outlets, notably NPR and Black Enterprise Magazine.
Prior to his current position as a full-time Professor and Associate Campus Dean for the Columbia, SC Campus of Strayer University, Dr. Brizek served as Campus Dean for the Washington, DC Campus. In 2008, he received Strayer University’s Donald R. Stoddard Teaching Award—awarded to faculty demonstrating exceptional commitment to excellence in instruction.
Dr. Brizek earned his Ph.D. in Business with an emphasis in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Virginia Tech, and a Master and Bachelor of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Administration from the University of South Carolina.
