Mike Petty has more than 30 years of experience in corporate finance, leadership, and strategic management. He is the founder and senior advisor of the Fairfax, Virginia-based North Star Partners, with principle clients including a $3 billion manufacturing company and $1 billion food service business. His professional expertise spans both privately owned and publicly traded companies, and includes responsibility in organizational leadership, financial management, strategic planning, shareholder relations, mergers and acquisitions, and restructuring.
Dr. Petty formerly served as Senior Vice President of the international financial advisory firm Stern Stewart & Co., and as Vice President of Planning & Development and CFO of American Medical Laboratories—where notably, he led a successful financial “turnaround” and implemented a comprehensive shareholder value maximization strategy. Dr. Petty has also contributed crucial financial management and strategic knowledge to a variety of other corporate entities, including the Fortune 500 multi-national SPX Corporation, the Bundy Corporation, and Ernst & Young.
As a faculty member for Strayer University’s MBA program, Dr. Petty teaches leadership and strategic management. He is also an adjunct faculty member for the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, and has been a guest lecturer for the Michigan State University’s MBA programs. He is also Co-Editor of the academic journal, Strategic Leadership Review.
He received Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees from Michigan State University, and a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
