Dr. Thomas E. Carden has more than 40 years of experience in adult education and training in both the public and private sectors. His extensive background in the nuclear power (electricity) industry includes serving as a Training Manager for Carolina Power and Light, and as an Accreditation Team Manager for the National Academy for Nuclear Training—for which he is the principal author of The Process for Accreditation of Training in the Nuclear Power Industry and The Objectives and Criteria for the Accreditation of Training in the Nuclear Power Industry. In 1995, Dr. Carden founded Blue Ridge Technologies—a consulting firm providing training and accreditation assistance to nuclear power plant training facilities.
Other education credits for Dr. Carden include several administrative positions at two community colleges in North Carolina. Notably, as Director of Industrial Technology at Piedmont Technical College, he led vocational and technical faculty members in implementing 12 degree and diploma programs. He has also served as adjunct faculty for the University System of Georgia as well as a public school teacher in Tennessee.
Dr. Carden has been with Strayer University since 2004. Prior to his role as a full-time Online Professor in the School of Education, he served as the Director of Academic Leadership Development and as Campus Dean for the Chamblee and Cobb campuses in Georgia.
He holds a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University, a Master of Arts in Administration and Higher Education from Appalachian State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Carden is a Vietnam veteran.
