Strayer University has appointed Dr. Marilyn Broadus-Gay to the position of dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Broadus-Gay brings significant academic experience to her new position. She previously served for five years as dean of the School of Liberal Arts at Norfolk State University (NSU) in Norfolk, Va., where she managed the academic and administrative functions of 11 academic departments.
She has also held positions as director of continuing education at NSU, director of the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center and faculty member at Virginia Union University in Richmond.
A native of Kentucky, Dr. Broadus-Gay earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from the University of Kentucky in Lexington and a doctoral degree in sociology from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
She has won awards in the areas of teaching, community service and academic and administrative leadership.
In her new role, Dr. Broadus-Gay will lead curriculum and faculty development for the University’s liberal arts general education curriculum, which is the foundation for all of Strayer University’s undergraduate degree programs, and the associate in arts degree in general studies.
The dean of the School of Arts and Sciences is also responsible for regular program planning, review and assessment, and information literacy development. Dr. Broadus-Gay will work closely with Strayer University President Dr. Sondra F. Stallard and Provost Dr. Joel O. Nwagbaraocha.
