While earning his undergraduate degree, second lieutenant Michael Hartson (BSIS ’11, MSM student) was deployed to Iraq, Qatar and South Korea and welcomed a second child to his family. Yet Hartson overcame those obstacles, with the support of his wife who is also on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, to earn a bachelor’s degree in information systems.

Hartson recently completed Officer Training School. Prior to starting OTS, he was the noncommissioned officer incharge at the headquarters ofthe Air Education and Training Command on Randolph Air Force Base in Texas. He is also a three-time recipient of the Air Force’s Noncommissioned Officer of the Year award.

“Earning my undergraduate degree was a stepping stone to help me yield more success in life,” he says. Hartson has since returned to Strayer University to pursue a master of science in management.
