Martin Luther King III, the oldest son of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., addressed more than 1,200 graduates at the Atlanta, Ga., ceremony. King spoke about the importance of education and the critical role it plays in empowering people to reach their goals.

“Strayer University opens the door to upward mobility for working families,” he said. “The future belongs to those who are educated and prepared to meet the challenges of tomorrow.”

Graduates rallied around King’s motivational words, as he encouraged them to “move forward with your plans for a successful life, but remember it is also important to nurture your spiritual development. Have a great career. Have a wonderful family,” he intoned. “But also pay attention to that inner voice of conscience and compassion and humanity that is needed to make a person whole.”
