Faculty Teaching Requirements

Full-time* Faculty are Strayer employees

  • Whose teaching assignments include a minimum of 4 classes per quarter for Winter, Spring and Fall quarters;
  • Whose primary assignment is teaching, but who conduct student advising and perform other duties that may be assigned by the Campus/Online Dean in accordance with contractual requirements and time commitments;
  • Who have the required credentials to teach the courses assigned;
  • Who are eligible to participate in the full-time employee benefit programs; and
  • Who have an annual contract which expires at the end of the calendar year, or in accordance with the specific terms of the contract.

*The denotation of faculty as “full-time” is not intended to create any contractual rights other than those set forth in the faculty member’s employment contract.

Adjunct Faculty are Strayer employees

  • Who are appointed by the quarter (term);
  • Whose primary responsibility is teaching;
  • Who have the required credentials to teach the courses assigned;
  • Who are not eligible to participate in employee benefit programs;
  • Who are invited to teach on a quarter-by-quarter basis, based solely on the needs of the University; and
  • Who receive a contract setting forth certain terms and conditions for each quarter in which they are invited to teach.

NOTE: An individual applying for Strayer employment as a faculty member must reside in a state in which Strayer is already operating a campus or other site. The reason for this is that Strayer cannot hire individuals who reside in states in which the University is not set up with appropriate state tax accounts. Minimum Qualifications to teach

  • Undergraduate – Master’s degree and 18 graduate credits in your teaching area, doctorate preferred
  • Graduate courses – Terminal degree and 18 post-graduate credits in your area of teaching

Potential faculty should have at least two years teaching experience in an adult educational environment, and two to five years’ work experience

Required Time Commitment

  • Log into class at least five (5) days out of seven (7) to participate in discussions, timely grading, Q&A, and general course management.
  • Respond to student questions within 24-hours; 48 hours on weekends
  • Complete midterm and final grading activities within a 48-hour window.

Quarter Length – Varies between 10 and 12 weeks

Computer/Technical Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion and passing of Strayer University’s Faculty Orientation and Training Program (online faculty must obtain passing grade prior to being hired).
  • Have access to reliable high-speed internet and a computer with current software in the Microsoft environment.

Required Commitments (Online)

  • Log into class at least five (5) days out of seven (7) to participate in discussions, timely grading, Q&A, and general course management.
