LEG 107-Introduction to Paralegal Studies

This course introduces the student to the evolving role of theparalegal or legal assistant in the public and private sectors. Topics ofstudy include paralegal employment opportunities, regulation, andethics. The course also introduces students to the steps and tasksinvolved in civil litigation. Students will practice the role of thelitigation paralegal using a hypothetical case; this includesinvestigation and gathering facts, discovery, trial support, andjudgment enforcement. Procedures and rules that facilitate the fairresolution of conflicts and the substantive law that forms the basis ofthe rights and remedies protected by the civil litigation system will bestudied.
