Committed to Serving Others

September 5, 2013

Jennifer C Anderson (MEd '13) always knew that her passion for education extended well beyond her work as an educator, so she enrolled with Strayer University in order to expand her own knowledge and grow in her career. "I had experience in the education industry, but I wanted to add a business aspect to my professional qualifications," says Anderson, who also holds a bachelor’s degree in middle grades education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. "I have learned first-hand that education is the key to getting ahead."

In recognition of her academic and professional successes, Anderson was presented the Outstanding Graduate Student Award at the regional commencement ceremony in Charlotte, N.C. The award recognizes a distinguished graduate student who maintained a 4.0 grade point average and who has advanced in her career, personal life and community.

Today, Anderson applies the tools she acquired at Strayer University to her position as an educator at James Martin Middle School in Charlotte, N.C. She has been dedicated to the field of education for nearly 20 years and recently founded Tutors to Leaders, a tutoring service that supports students of all ages in a variety of subjects. She also conducts team-building, leadership and diversity training workshops for local churches and businesses.

Outside of her teaching positions, Anderson has also given back to the community by serving as a National Education Association representative and a Professional Learning Community chairperson.
