Congressman Honors Graduating Class
March 20, 2013
Strayer University held its first regional commencement ceremony of 2013 at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pa., on March 16. During the ceremony, graduating students, alumni and faculty also received awards and recognition for their outstanding achievements.
Rep. Chaka Fattah, U.S. representative of Pennsylvania’s second congressional district, delivered the commencement address. Rep. Fattah is currently serving his 10th term in the U.S. House of Representatives. During his highly respected career, he has been an advocate and leading voice for national issues such as higher education, energy efficiency and conservation, healthcare, job creation, housing, youth mentoring and crime prevention.
Strayer University students from nearly 54 campuses across the region were on hand to listen to Rep. Fattah during the ceremony. “Graduates of Strayer University’s Class of 2013 faced many challenges and obstacles along their academic journey, but it did not keep them from fulfilling their dream of earning a postsecondary degree,” Rep. Fattah said.
“These graduates have shown the determination and commitment that is needed to achieve high levels of success, which will surely serve them well in their future endeavors.”
Strayer University will hold five more ceremonies later this year at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga., on May 18; Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., on June 29; Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C., on Aug. 10; Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 26; and the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Md., on Dec. 7.
