Dr. Michael Plater Named Interim President
December 7, 2011
Strayer University is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Plater, former provost and chief academic officer, has been named interim president. Dr. Plater’s appointment follows the retirement of Dr. Sondra Stallard as University president after four years of dedicated service to students, faculty and alumni.
“Strayer University thanks Dr. Sondra Stallard for her years of service while welcoming Dr. Michael Plater to his new and expanded role,” said Strayer University Board of Trustees Chairwoman Dr. Charlotte Beason. “Dr. Plater’s impressive background and credentials are valuable assets as we pursue our mission to help students better their lives through high-quality education.”
Dr. Plater joined Strayer University in 2010, bringing both a business background and more than 20 years in academic administration to his new role. He previously served as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University and associate dean of Brown University’s Graduate School. Dr. Plater holds a doctorate from the College of William and Mary, an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University.
Retired University President Dr. Sondra Stallard will continue to work with the University’s academic leadership in her new role as president emerita. Dr. Stallard’s many accomplishments as president included introducing next-generation online courses, expanding academic advising and tutoring programs, and increasing student access to critical learning resources.
