Education Helps Lead Alumnus to Career Advancement

May 24, 2013

After earning an undergraduate degree, Marquis Perryman (BSIS ’11) was promoted to product analyst by his employer, Global Payments Inc. “Ever since I earned my degree, my director has been encouraging me to take on more leadership roles within the workplace,” Perryman says.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements since graduating from Strayer University in 2011, Perryman was named the University’s Outstanding Alumnus during the regional commencement ceremony held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The award recognizes significant achievement by alumni both in their professional life and in their community.

Perryman has been working for Global Payments in Sandy Springs, Ga., for nearly 13 years, where he is responsible for securing networks, writing technical reports and ensuring the security of the client’s credit card information. He was also recently asked by his employer to serve as the project manager for a large-scale payment card industry compliance assignment. “The skills I gained from my education have enabled me to interact with different departments throughout the company,” Perryman says.

In addition to receiving the Outstanding Alumnus recognition, Perryman has received several professional awards and honors, including the Commitment and Accountability Award from his current employer. Outside of work, Perryman keeps himself busy by volunteering in his community. Perryman facilitates donation drives and volunteers in various youth leadership roles, including working with fifth graders transitioning to middle school at his local church.
