Strayer University Launches ‘Graduation Fund’ to Address College Affordability and Promote Graduation

May 7, 2013

Herndon, VA – May 8, 2013 – Strayer University, a leading postsecondary institution that serves working adults, today announced a groundbreaking new program to address the twin challenges of affordability and college completion facing higher education today. The Strayer University Graduation Fund will cover up to 25 percent of the cost of an undergraduate degree for dedicated students. Starting from day one, for every three classes a new student successfully completes, Strayer University will place one Tuition Award in their Graduation Fund to cover the cost of one future class. In addition, as part of an overall effort to address affordability, Strayer University is also announcing that tuition will be frozen for currently enrolled students, and there will be no tuition increase for 2014.

“College affordability is a significant issue for many students across the country, and can become a big obstacle on their way to earning a degree,” said Michael Plater, Ph.D., president of Strayer University. “Our Graduation Fund helps students overcome this challenge and puts the power of graduation in their hands. If a student is willing to put in the time and hard work to earn a degree, we are equally committed to supporting them through their graduation.”

The Strayer University Graduation Fund will go into effect for the Summer term, which begins July 1, 2013. A Graduation Fund will be automatically established for each new student. There is no paperwork to complete, no competition against other students and no limit to the number of students who can participate. For every three courses successfully completed a student will earn one Tuition Award that can be redeemed for the final courses leading to a bachelor’s degree. There is no expiration date on the tuition credits as long as students stay enrolled and remain in good academic standing.

“Strayer University has a legacy of innovation and working to help our adult students—now we’re innovating to help make college more affordable,” said Karl McDonnell, chief executive officer of Strayer Education, Inc. “Strayer University’s mission is to expand access to education to working adults, and this program does that by minimizing the obstacle of cost, encouraging students to stay on track and rewarding those who are committed to completing their degrees.”

Strayer University has been helping make education achievable for working adults for more than 120 years. With approximately 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students attending classes at one of 100 campus locations or through online degree programs, Strayer offers innovative, relevant and rigorous academic programs that are tailored for adult learners and enable them to advance their careers.
