Luevirta Hammonds (MBA ’13) earned a graduate degree to get ahead in her career and to show her loved ones that dreams can be achieved through determination and hard work. “My family and friends have witnessed first-hand the confidence that was instilled in me by reaching my goal of earning a master’s degree. This added confidence has helped me in both my personal and professional life,” Hammonds says.
In recognition of her perseverance and commitment to earning a master’s degree, Hammonds was presented the Outstanding Graduate Student Award at the regional commencement ceremony at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The award recognizes a distinguished graduate student who maintained a 4.0 grade point average and who has advanced in her career, personal life and community.
Hammonds continues to use the skills and knowledge she gained from Strayer University in her position as a licensed practical nurse for the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Ga. In this role, she provides patient care, schedules appointments, and administers and orders medications for the clinic. Ms. Hammonds is also a Patient Aligned Care Team coach and serves as chairperson for the medical center’s Licensed Practical Nurse board.
During her distinguished career, she has worked in many locations throughout the world, including Highland House Rehabilitation and Healthcare Inc. in Fayetteville, N.C., St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, N.J., and 67th Combat Support Hospital in Würzburg, Germany.
Outside of work, Hammonds serves on the Trustee Board and the Education Committee of her local church.
