Message from the President.

Brian W. Jones

President, Strayer University

As Strayer University’s academic visionary, Brian W. Jones sets the agenda for delivering a rigorous, innovative and quality education that helps adult learners compete in today’s global economy.

With a long and distinguished career in education, Brian served in a number of senior higher education roles before joining Strayer University as general counsel in 2012 and being appointed as interim president in 2015.

Prior to joining the University, Brian co-founded and served as president of Latimer Education, Inc., an early stage venture-backed company partnering with an historically black college to provide high quality online postsecondary education solutions to African American working adults; was senior counsel to the Washington, D.C. law firm of Dow Lohnes PLLC (now Cooley LLC), where he advised education companies, investors and institutions; and served as the U.S. Department of Education’s general counsel, a Senate-confirmed presidential appointment, among other roles. As general counsel, he was the fourth-ranking officer of the Department and served as principal adviser to U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige on all legal matters affecting Department programs and activities.

Brian currently serves on the board of directors of College Loan Corporation and chairs the board of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, a Washington, D.C.-based association that represents the interests of charter school stakeholders nationally and at the state level. He also previously served as chair of the D.C. Public Charter School Board (PCSB).

Brian earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in finance from Georgetown University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law.
