District of Columbia Vaccination Requirements

The District of Columbia requires that entering students at Strayer University provide evidence that they have received the following vaccinations or can demonstrate that they are immune to these diseases:

Measles, Mumps, Rubella - 2 doses administered at least 28 days apart.

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria (Td), Acellular Pertussis (Tdap) – minimum of 3 doses. Generally, a primary series of 3 doses is administered in childhood. The first and second doses must be administered at least 4 weeks apart and the third dose at least 6 months after the second dose. A booster dose is generally administered 10 years after the primary series.
  • Hepatitis B – 3 doses with the second dose administered 4-8 weeks after the first dose and the third dose 8-16 weeks after the second dose but not earlier than 16 weeks after the first dose.
  • Varicella (Chickenpox) – 2 doses administered between 28 days and 2 months apart.

Most people born in the United States after 1968 will have received these vaccinations as part of their regular childhood immunizations or have evidence of immunity. Some students do not need to receive the vaccines. The following categories of students do NOT need to receive the vaccines:

  • Students who are 26 years old or older
  • Students with medical conditions who cannot receive vaccinations
  • Students who object to vaccinations on religious grounds
