School of Education

Welcome from the Dean

The face of education is changing. Technology provides new means of connection and more engaging, interactive learning. Learners are now more active than passive, and take more responsibility for their education. If you’re considering enrolling in the School of Education at Strayer University, you’re doing just that.

You want to succeed in a world that is truly global—where learning takes place far beyond the four walls of the classroom, where mobile devices and the world wide web remove physical and geographical limitations. In this information age, you know that knowledge is the key to success, and that communication and collaboration are critical workplace tools. Information abounds; it’s critical for educators to stay abreast of curriculum requirements, educational policies, instructional strategies, and assessment measures. Technology, globalization, and information are changing the way you learn, and the way you will teach your students.

Strayer University’s Master of Education (M.Ed.) program is designed to meet up-to-date market employment needs, prepare you to address contemporary issues and trends in traditional and non-traditional educational environments, and provide opportunities to apply educational theory to practice. It’s designed to help you upgrade your skills and acquire new knowledge for career enhancement. And, we made sure that its 10 key learning outcomes correlate directly with the skills employers want. Meanwhile, a keen focus on technology and diversity prepares you for the practicalities of the work world.

Research shows huge potential in the area of adult learning, forecasting demand for training and development specialists to increase 23 percent by 2018. Recently, we expanded our M.Ed. program concentrations to include Adult Education and Development, enabling training and development professionals to take their careers to the next level. That program is designed for those of you who instruct adult students in post-secondary institutions, non-profit organizations, the military, government agencies, or corporate settings.
You will be taught by an excellent adjunct and full-time faculty, all of whom hold doctorate degrees. They receive teaching assignments based on their expertise and areas of specialization. They are all professional K-12 or post-secondary education specialists, many of whom belong to or hold office in professional organizations, attend or present at conferences, publish in the field of education, and/or provide service and leadership within Strayer University committees, professional affiliations, or their local communities.

You will complete your master’s degree in education at Strayer University with a capstone course, which focuses on developing a professional portfolio. You will develop a comprehensive collection of work and artifacts that demonstrate the theoretical and practical knowledge gained in your courses. The capstone portfolio will be evaluated by a supervising faculty member, and can be useful in demonstrating your qualifications to current and prospective employers.
