Academic Programs

School of Information Systems

Welcome from the Dean

In the past decade or so, the world has experienced the invention of the artificial heart, the iPad, Google, social networking, cloud computing, and the Wii. At the School of Information Systems at Strayer University, we keep pace with technological change, and are constantly innovating our academic programs to stay relevant and cutting-edge.

Change and technology go hand in hand. The information technology field requires people with a curious mindset and the ability to apply technology in a business context. C-level executives count on us to employ the latest technology to improve business processes, reduce expenses, or increase revenue—in other words, to meet business goals. It isn’t enough to simply deploy or configure technology without a sound plan to execute, manage, and control the installation. We have to think through security considerations and change controls that are part of daily technology operations, and ensure that they’re consistent with organizational and regulatory policies.

Our students and alumni are on the front lines. I’ve been an adult learner myself. I spent 20 years in the newspaper publishing business and earned my master’s and doctorate degrees while working full time. Leading and applying technology solutions that solve business problems are what energized me! I know what it’s like to gain invaluable learning experiences that include a strong breadth of technology with lifelong friendships—and humbled by mentors who believe
in you.

We offer all of this in the School of Information Systems at Strayer University. Our faculty members are not only teachers, but have also been practitioners and thought leaders in the industry. They hold many key certifications and can share experiences that bring our courses to life and are relevant to real world practices.
Our academic programs stay abreast and aligned to accrediting body requirements. We are vigilant about ensuring that our programs provide an academic framework that allows you to construct lifelong opportunities. We will be developing new programs in the fall of 2012 that include courses and concentrations that further align with industry and have a greater focus on employer needs as it relates to security and various business verticals. Our forward-looking plans also will be aligned with well-respected bodies such as the Association for Computing Machinery, National Security Agency, Department of Defense, and the Project Management Institute.

We look forward to welcoming you.
