Strayer University Presents Financial Planning Session The Business of Football: Rookie Edition

On June 28, 2011, Strayer University, along with Hall of Fame Coach Joe Gibbs and retired Detroit Lions defensive lineman Luther Elliss, led the financial planning program at the NFL Players Association’s inaugural symposium for NFL rookies, The Business of Football: Rookie Edition. The event was held from June 28 to June 29 in Bradenton, Florida.

Gibbs and Elliss provided personal perspectives on life during and after the NFL as well as their experiences with financial challenges, while Strayer University financial experts facilitated 90 minute financial planning breakout sessions for approximately 125 rookies. Strayer University faculty created the curriculum for the breakouts, which focused on topics including personal financial planning for athletes, assessing personal spending habits, financial goal setting during the first year in the NFL and making good decisions for the long-term.

Strayer University led a similar program for the Washington Redskins players last summer and based on that work, was invited by NFLPA to develop curriculum for and provide instruction at the rookie symposium. The content for both the Redskins and symposium programs is based on the personal finance course Strayer University offers at 90 campuses nationwide, as well as online worldwide.
