Strayer University has appointed Mariana Valdes-Fauli to the position of dean of student affairs.
Before joining Strayer University, Ms. Valdes-Fauli was the special assistant to the vice president for student affairs and ombudsperson for the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., where she mediated conflicts, assisted in the resolution of student grievances, developed student affairs policies and procedures, and led student affairs strategic planning and assessment efforts.
She has also served as human resources director for the University of Miami’s Division of Student Affairs, and as a management analyst for the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Valdes-Fauli was accepted to the Presidential Management Fellowship Program and completed the program in spring 2002.
She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Latin American studies from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and a juris doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law in Gainesville.
In her new role, Ms. Valdes-Fauli will help deliver academic support programs of the highest quality in order to promote the welfare of Strayer University students, enhance retention and facilitate career development opportunities.
The dean of student affairs is also responsible for resolving student concerns and handling student disciplinary matters, apprising students of University policies and procedures, and ensuring that the needs of students with disabilities are met.
Ms. Valdes-Fauli will work closely with Strayer University President Dr. Sondra F. Stallard and Provost Dr. Joel O. Nwagbaraocha.
