MICHAEL WAYNE MOORE CLASS VALEDICTORIAN BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

One of the most rewarding aspects of the Strayer faculty/student relationship is to see our veterans succeed once back in civilian life. When Michael Moore retired from the U.S. Army in 2011, he decided to make a major career change, creating new job possibilities by enrolling in the BBA program. “I served in the automotive field in the Army, but really wanted to work in finance and accounting,” he says. “Accomplishing that required a degree, and Strayer University was a great fit for me.” Today, Mr. Moore graduates as Class Valedictorian, achieving a 4.0 GPA. He is already applying his degree to his role as a logistics analyst for Calibre, a Department of Defense contractor, where he analyzes and reports on financial data for the company’s contracts. “My bachelor’s degree is a key component for career development with my employer, who wants well-rounded employees who are knowledgeable in varied areas, not just core subjects,” he says. Mr. Moore previously served 13 years in the U.S. Army as a light-wheeled vehicle mechanic, in a combat deployment role in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During that time, he earned Master Technician status within the Army’s Automotive Service Excellence program. He also volunteers as a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol, holding finance officer and homeland security officer roles. As a student at Leeward Community College, he helped establish a student veterans program that assisted active duty and veteran students in using veteran’s benefits. In his free time, Mr. Moore enjoys landscaping, yard work, playing guitar and spending time with his wife, Christine, and parents Gerry and Eleanor.
