Senior VP of Academics
As a leader in business I have had the opportunity to work for a couple highly-respected employers in the past such as Goldman Sachs and Fidelity Investments. I have been with Strayer University for over 8 years and have served in several different operational and support roles for the University. These opportunities have allowed me to travel throughout our campus network and meet with many of our students and colleagues. There are many different factors that make working for Strayer University a unique and exciting experience such as using innovation to solve new and different challenges, working with a diverse group of colleagues, being part of a high-energy, service minded culture and personal growth and development opportunities through taking on new and challenging roles. A lot of these things can be found at other great employers, but the single thing that makes working for Strayer University so satisfying is knowing that your hard work is making a difference in the lives of our students, their families and future generations. Their success also becomes your success!
I have spent time in several different career fields; Special Education, Video and Television Production, Telemarketing, and mortgages to name a few. I came to Strayer because I had been in business to business sales and found the impersonal nature of the business difficult for me. I wanted to make a personal impact and difference in people’s lives, as I had in the mortgage industry. I enjoy working for Strayer because every time I sit with a student I get to make an impact on their future goals, whether it be to encourage them to continue their educational career or help them see that going back to school is possible. I truly believe that what these students accomplish is amazing. I was a traditional student and didn’t have to deal with competing priorities when I went to school and I am in awe of what our students accomplish; being able to be a part of that process is the best feeling ever.
Charlene Walters, Ph.D.
Assistant Dean of Curriculum (MKT, HTM, LEG, HSA, BUS100)
College of Business, Undergraduate Program
I started working at Strayer University in 2007 as an adjunct professor. Over the years, I’ve taught numerous Business and Marketing courses and have also done a lot of work on curriculum development which I am very passionate about. While working on my dissertation which involved online consumer behavior and website choice, I begin to really think about the student’s online experience and what could be done to improve it. My love for curriculum, teaching, online behavior, and design came together when I had the opportunity to take a position as an Assistant Dean of Curriculum for the Undergraduate Business School. I chose to work at Strayer University because it is an innovative, student-oriented and leading educational institution and because the position was one where I felt that I could put my creative, marketing and teaching experience and talents to good use!
Strayer University has a great deal to offer our employees - a significant and successful history, personal and professional growth opportunities, and the chance to have a rewarding career that changes lives and improves communities.
