If you have strong knowledge or experience in a particular subject area, you may be able to earn credit by passing a Strayer Challenge Exam or another standardized test. Talk to your admissions officer to find out which exam option can help you earn credit toward your degree.

How do Strayer Challenge Exams work?

If you have previous experience in a subject required for your degree, you may have the opportunity to show what you know by taking and passing a Strayer Challenge Exam. It’s like taking the final exam without taking the course. Pass any exam with a grade of 70% or higher to earn credit toward an approved Strayer course.

You can take Strayer Challenge Exams for select courses online from almost any computer with a high-speed internet connection, webcam and microphone. Exams are monitored remotely by ProctorU® through webcams and screen sharing. You can schedule exams seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Central Time. If you pass the Strayer Challenge Exam, you’ll receive a TC on your transcript, indicating transfer credit.

It costs $20 per exam, and you can pay it to ProctorU®. For more information about test credit for Strayer Challenge Exams and our transfer credit policy, please refer to the Strayer University Catalog.

Students who are currently enrolled in Strayer bachelor’s program have the opportunity to earn test credit through the Strayer Challenge Exam program. 

You’ll need to score at least 70% to pass the exam and earn credit toward an approved Strayer course.*

*Transcript and academic experience evaluations are conducted by the Strayer University transcript evaluation team [BG1] in accordance with university policy. Successfully earned test credits shall only be applied to transcripts of active Strayer students enrolled in a degree or certificate program subject to university policy, including but not limited to, the Residency Requirement. Inactive students, students in re-enroll status and non-Strayer students taking Strayer Challenge Exams may not apply such exam credit toward an inactive or non-Strayer degree program. Inactive students, students in re-enroll status and non-Strayer students may submit earned Strayer Challenge Exam test credits and grades that were not awarded credit to other receiving institutions for transfer at the sole discretion of the receiving institution. Strayer University does not warrant or represent that earned Strayer Challenge Exam test credits – or grades for Strayer Challenge Exams not awarded credit – shall be accepted by other receiving institutions.
