Scholarship details

The Brian Jones Fellows Scholarship is a full-tuition award honoring Brian Jones, the 15th President of Strayer University. It’s designed to cultivate students’ leadership abilities, academic excellence and commitment to community service. Each fellow will receive:

  • A full-tuition scholarship to complete either a bachelor’s degree program in accounting, business administration, criminal justice or information technology, or a master’s degree for any designated graduate program excluding Jack Welch Management Institute (JWMI) programs. 
  • Opportunities to strengthen research and leadership skills through supplemental programming and professional networking.

Brian Jones Fellows Scholarship eligibility requirements

  • Meet all Strayer University admission requirements for your bachelor’s or master’s degree program (excluding the Jack Welch Management Institute).
  • Live in or around one of the following metropolitan areas:
    • Atlanta, GA
    • Charlotte, NC
    • Dallas, TX
    • Houston, TX
    • Memphis, TN
    • Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN
    • New Jersey
    • Philadelphia, PA
    • Washington, D.C./Maryland/Virginia
  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Be a newly admitted first-time bachelor's or master's student. A student may not receive a second Fellows scholarship at any degree level.
  • Be available to start the program winter quarter 2026.
  • Recipients must be able to start courses toward their bachelor’s or master’s degree program as a new Strayer student for winter quarter 2026.
  • Full-tuition scholarships will be applied to recipients’ Strayer accounts equal to the cost of tuition and technology fee and books during the third week of each quarter or billing session, pending satisfaction of agreed-upon terms in award agreement and continued satisfaction of these requirements to receive the scholarship.
  • Recipients cannot take off more than one quarter in a row.
  • Recipients who switch to an ineligible program such as an associate degree, Media Design School at Strayer (MDS), Devmountain, Degrees@Work or VerizonOnsite, discontinue enrollment (i.e., two or more consecutive quarters off) or otherwise withdraw from Strayer will forfeit all rights to the scholarship and have all future scholarship disbursements canceled. The scholarship automatically terminates upon graduation from Strayer.
  • Recipients who do not remain enrolled through the first two weeks of the quarter or billing session will forfeit the award for the missed quarter or billing session. The missed quarter will count as an unenrolled quarter for purposes for continued scholarship eligibility.
  • Recipients of this scholarship are not eligible for any other grants, scholarships or discounts offered by Strayer or any of its affiliates.
  • The scholarship may decrease the amount of funding the recipient is eligible to obtain from other sources, such as federal financial aid.
  • The scholarship is intended to address the cost of attendance including, but not limited to, tuition.
  • Recipients of the scholarship must read and agree to terms presented in the award agreement prior to the start of their first quarter at Strayer and the first application of the scholarship funds.
  • Students who use the Strayer University Brian Jones Fellows Scholarship are not eligible for the Strayer Learn and Earn Scholarship.
  • The scholarship may not be used by the same recipient for more than one degree program.
  • Strayer University and its affiliates’ (Capella University, Devmountain and Strategic Education, Inc.) faculty and staff, their spouses, domestic partners and dependent children are not eligible for the scholarship.
  • You must complete fellowship program requirements in addition to academic coursework to remain eligible in the program.

Bachelor’s-only eligibility requirements:

  • The scholarship can only be applied to a bachelor’s degree program in accounting, business administration, criminal justice or information technology, and is only available to newly admitted students seeking their first bachelor’s degree.
  • Hold a minimum GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate applicants or a 3.5 for graduate applicants.

Master’s-only eligibility requirements:

  • Successful completion of bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized institutional accreditor.
  • The scholarship can only be applied to a master’s degree program currently offered at the time of enrollment (with the exception of the Jack Welch Management Institute) and is only available to newly admitted students seeking a master’s degree.

How to apply

  1. Download the scholarship application.
  2. Complete your application and submit it and the following documents to [email protected]. The subject line of the email should include your full name and Brian Jones Fellows Scholarship application. Your application must include:
    • The completed application, including the essay
    • At least two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your commitment to your community
    • A copy of your high school transcript showing completion (or equivalent) or college level (if applicable)
  3. Comply with the scholarship and fellowship program requirements.

Application deadline

This application is due on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. You will be notified by Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, as to whether you are a scholarship recipient. The Brian Jones Fellows Scholarship begins winter quarter 2026.

Selection criteria

The Strayer scholarship committee will select award recipients based on their ability to meet eligibility requirements; the content, clarity and substance of responses to the essay question; letter of recommendation; and completion of high school or equivalent. Scholarship criteria are subject to state and federal law and may be modified to comply with applicable laws.
