At Strayer we recognize the value of your experience and so we offer credit for your prior education, military experience, work experience, proven skills and more. See all the ways, in addition to coursework, you can add credits towards your degree.

You can finish your degree on campus or online with Strayer University. Our transfer alliances with more than 460 colleges and universities mean more of your credits count toward your Strayer degree.

Begin the transfer process by completing an online application.
  2. Request Your Transcripts.
Contact your former school and request that an official transcript be sent to the Strayer Registrar's Office. It can take two to four weeks for us to receive your transcripts, so you should do it as soon as possible. You need to complete this step even if your school is one of our partners
  3. Wait for Approval
Strayer will review your transcript and contact you as soon as possible (usually within 20 days) with a complete list of approved credits.* Meet with your Admissions Officer to finalize your path to graduation.

Many organizations seek to improve the knowledge and abilities of their employees by providing corporate training, either through instructor-led classes or e-learning. Such sessions might be focused on giving employees the tools and skills necessary to perform a specific job function. Or, they might be broader in scope, like providing a management trainee program to prepare current employees to take on a leadership role in the future. The curriculum used in either or both of these formats may provide employees with exposure to college-level coursework, which may be transferable to your degree program at Strayer University.

If your training has been reviewed by the American Council on Education (ACE), request an ACE transcript or other documentation from your corporation. Although your corporation may be different, training history is most often maintained by the human resource or corporate training department. Transcripts must include course title, credit hours or CEUs, and proof of successful completion.

If your organization has an educational alliance with Strayer University, your internal training may have been evaluated for college credit, even if the training has not been reviewed by ACE. Your Success Coach can tell you if your employer is a member of Strayer University's alliance; see additional information on our corporate alliances.

Strayer University is proud to work with active and retired U.S. military personnel to recognize the credit you may have earned while serving our country. The experience you gained while in the military may be equivalent to college-level coursework. Learn more about Military Credit.

  1. Request a copy of your Joint Services Transcript (JST) to be sent to Strayer University for evaluation.

Not all learning is classroom-based; you deserve credit for what you’ve accomplished. Using procedures developed by the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), we assess knowledge gained outside the college classroom on a course-by-course basis for possible credit toward a degree. Document and submit your college-level learning experiences in an online portfolio demonstrating your ability to fulfill course requirements. We’ll evaluate the portfolio under CAEL standards; meeting at least 70% of the course objectives awards you life experience college credits.

All undergraduate courses are eligible for life credit via portfolio review.

  • Choose a course and meet with your Success Coach to confirm your eligibility.
  • Download and complete the Life Credit Portfolio Application Form and pay the $250 submission fee at your campus business office (remember, that is significantly less than tuition for the same class)
  • Submit your portfolio online
  • After your review is complete and, if you attained 70% or more of the course objectives, your credits will be posted online.
