Earn credit for prior experience

Turn your experience into college credit

You may be able to turn your prior work, life and learning experiences into college credit. Explore the types of experience that may qualify, then talk with your admissions officer to see how your experience could apply.

Types of experience

Certification and licensure

Through your professional or personal experience, you may have earned a certification or license that can count toward college-level credit. We award transfer credit for select certifications that currently align with our courses. Earning a certification may show employers and educators that you’re serious about your career and committed to keeping your skills relevant to industry needs.

  • Certifications must be verified by our transcript evaluation team to be considered for course transfer.
  • Only one certification may be applied per course, unless specifically noted.

Many organizations offer corporate training through instructor-led classes or e-learning programs. Whether focused on helping you build skills for a specific role or preparing you for future leadership through management training, these sessions may include college-level learning that could be eligible for transfer credit toward your Strayer degree.

If your training has been reviewed by the American Council on Education (ACE), you can request an ACE transcript. In many cases, your employer’s human resources or corporate training department can help you access the necessary documentation. Remember, transcripts must include course title, credit hours or CEUs, and proof of successful completion.

Your training may qualify for college credit – even without an ACE review – if your employer is one of our corporate partners. See if your employer is on our growing list.

We’re proud to support active and retired U.S. military personnel by recognizing the credit you may have earned through your service. The experience you gained may be equivalent to college-level coursework. Learn more about military credit.

We’ll request a copy of your Joint Services Transcript (JST) for evaluation. Once it’s reviewed, you’ll be able to see which credits transfer in GPS.
